“Cowboys and Indians are fighting on the same side this week in the nation’s capital.
The Cowboy and Indian Alliance is marching on the Capitol in Washington for Earth Day today through April 27 to protest the TransCanada Keystone XL Pipeline. The group is setting up a tipi camp outside the White House for the five-day duration of the protests.
The protest camp will formally close on April 27, with the message of “reject the Keystone XL.” Saturday, April 26 has been designated as “a day of action.” On that date everyone present will be asked to put his or her thumbprint mark on a tipi.”

“Ranchers and farmers have joined forces with tribal communities and created the unified coalition in opposing the construction of the pipeline that would transport tar sands oil through their lands from Canada to Texas.

It’s a simple message really, and one that Native peoples have been repeating for centuries. Whatever we do to the Earth, we do to ourselves. It’s not because we are closer to nature than others, have spirit animals or look really attractive on horseback that we know this basic fact. Everyone on Earth knows it, too, but they get pressured to ignore it.”

“Thousands of people rallied in Washington, D.C., on Saturday calling on President Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline.
